The same woman mirrored and placed in the extremes of different cultures.
The gold shines in real life.

I recently did an Illustration for the Dalstonist. A great free paper for those living in the Hackney area of London. I even read it and I live in Bristol.

Laugharne weekend 2013

Went back to my home town to do a live painting of Dylan Thomas at the Laugharne Weekend festival. Dylan Thomas because he lived and wrote and drank in Laugharne. There is a Laugharne Weekend for the same reason. Going bigger next year.
Still need to find a photo of the painting finished, the one on the right is as close as I’ve found, but it’s not that close.

I Am Human

So I’ve started my own clothing label called I am Human. There’s just one design so far. The plan is to sell some of these to fund the next one. It’s over here – You can keep up to date by ‘liking’ here – facebook or ‘following’ here – twitter.

ArtIsAn Idea

The nice people over at the new and very shiny have done a feature on me. There is an interview, sketchbook section, a retrospective look at development & photos of the process of my last painting. If you don’t like me there’s loads of stuff on other people too.

quantum amounts of faith

Mind over matter. Mind not of matter but of the self, I think therefore I cannot pin point an electron. Beauty in the form of an equation I don’t understand. I believe what I am told, from the Krauss, Cox generation of marvelling at the wonder, the story, but when I don’t understand the maths I need faith. I scratch my balls, electrons realign and an order of difference is maintained. Faith in science is where I am at.

I used to lie awake at night asking the question, you know, the question, how is there anything? Deflating inflation, rewinding the expansion and pausing on the moment before, Boom. A ball of massive mass floats in front of me. From the darkness an evolution of misunderstood gods step into the light, waving to me like old men sellers in a Marakeshian souk. I politely refuse and leave with nothing.
I would think conspiracist thoughts of parts of the brain being deliberately turned off, by..? The parts which deal with the enormous and the quantum. Inbuilt brick walls of incomprehension.

One night (21/02/2011), asking the question, the origin, the ball of mass floating, spinning behind my closed eyes, I thought ‘wouldn’t nothing be as strange as something’ and I felt better. My god is me. I exist, I think, therefore you can find me, mathless, skimming over the surface of a lake painted by smiling men of science who exist in a box I bought and plugged in.

EL SOL at The Farm

I have a solo show at The Farm, Bristol. Opening on Friday the 6th of January from 7pm with music from dj’s Mutely & Trufflehunter supplying a whole spectrum of audible treats to make the ears smile. There will be unseen paintings, some from my own personal collection and several limited edition prints.
The paintings will be up for the whole of January.
Why not have a look if you are in the area.

the post, check in

It’s been a while. In the middle of a painting that has devoured my life. ^Above^ is a small part of it. I will try and be more regular from now on.

In other news, I have a solo exhibition confirmed for January, which I am not going to spam you about… yet. It’s in Bristol and it’s in a drinking establishment, so whilst the alcohol won’t be free, it will be plentiful. Does anybody know any Bristol DJs who like things on the Def Jux end of the spectrum?

Flags, separate, crossing your bit
you’re a bit like that
bombs damage the ground
and relations
moving rocks, rocket propelled, caterpillar tracks
leaving eaten, leaves, autumnal
the bit at the end when the trees are bare
not yet winter
on the boundary between
looking at each side the flags are similar
invisible line
one side yours
one side mine.

emw – live drawing

Did some live drawing for Electronic Music Wales in The Parrot, Carmathen, Wales, last Friday night. Caught up with some good people. Above is the result of many long time no sees and many more long beers can just about sees.
An mc (D.Gritty) dropped the line ‘i put more holes in ya than a string vest’, which I enjoyed, and he signed.

the same stuff but better

I’m made of the same stuff as everything
Better than everything
though, thought through… similarity.
But I am different. Tough.
Cleverer. Better, yes better.
Believe or ignore, believe and ignore.
Made of the same stuff
as celebrities and stars*.
Those trees and things in the sea
were dangerous anyway.
Carefree, free to care, I don’t.
